Junk foods are those foods that are high in calories and low in nutrients. Empty calorie foods do not contain the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy. As a result, you may feel sluggish, fatigued and lack the energy you need to complete daily tasks or to exercise. The high levels of sugar and sodium in these junk foods can lead to high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity. Because snack foods don’t contain adequate amounts of protein and good carbohydrates, they aren’t filling and they cause your blood sugar levels to drop and are known to leave you feeling grumpy, hungry and craving even more sugar. Overindulging in snacks that contain large amounts of fat, will cause fat to accumulate in your body, especially if you are not exercising daily. Should you just give it all up for good? Of course not. Everything in moderation is fine but sometimes having a few healthy options to those favorite snacks and a daily exercise regimen will help you to be more successful with your health and fitness goals.
