In 2007, legendary rapper Pimp C, who was one-half of the group UGK, died from respiratory depression due to an accidental overdose of “lean” a.k.a “syrup” and “purple drank,” which is a combination of promethazine and codeine (from prescription-strength cough syrup) mixed with a soft drink and candy.
