Paul Marquez wanted to spend more time with a woman, so he decided to sell her baby on Craigslist. According to reports by SILive, Marquez, 22, began dating a woman he met online. The two went out several times, but their dates ware often called off because the woman told Marquez that she had to work and take care of her child.

Marquez believed he would see the woman more often if her baby were not in the picture. He decided to place an ad on Craigslist to sell the baby for $100.

“Hey, I have a 2 month old baby name [redacted] she loves to play and have her little fun but there is only 1 problem, the doctor said that she has asthma and if she turns a certain way she can stop breathing, she’s really getting on my nerves and I don’t want her. Please email me,” Marquez posted.

Craigslist took the post down after it was flagged. However, Marquez decided to post a new ad with a picture of the baby. Once the second post went live, the NYPD took notice and tracked Marquez’s address. On Aug. 1, police arrested Marquez two days after the second post went live.

He has been charged with second-degree aggravated harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. Marquez was given a $1000 bail, but he has yet to post bond while at Riker’s Island.
