Carmen Carrera talks about the growing acceptance of transgender people

Carmen Carerra - Inside Edition Cover

Carmen Carrera has been blazing a trail for transgender people in Hollywood ever since she appeared on the third season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Now the bonafide celebrity and rising fashion star is speaking out about the changing attitude towards the trans community and explaining that things are changing for the better.

While speaking with “Inside Edition,” Carrera talked about her own transition and explained that she realized she was transgender woman at an early age.

“I would be like, ‘Man, my life would be so much easier, I can be happier, if I can wake up tomorrow as a girl, then everything would be good.’ I would be so jealous of my sister. She had her hair done nice. I grew up like that, wishing, and wishing, and wishing.”

However, Carrera didn’t come out as trans until after her stint on “Drag Race.” Although she’s faced opposition and criticism from both the drag community and society at large, she claims that things are getting better for trans people.

“Right now in the world, everyone’s starting to awaken—to experience before they judge, rather than judge without experience. Because I think a lot of people do that,” Carrera explained.

And Carrera couldn’t me more happy about that change and her life as a woman.

“I’m so happy, honestly,” said Carrera. “I think that people need to know you can come from any background. It doesn’t matter. You just have to stick to your morals and just be true to who you are. You can have anything you want.”

Those are certainly wise words from a beautiful woman. Check out some other transgender stars that are blazing a trail below. – nicholas robinson
