An arrest has been made in a 22-year-old mother’s death in July of 2013 over silicone “butt injections.” The victim, Tamara Blaine, paid Tamira M. Mobley, 28, to enlarge her rear end with silicone injections. Mobley has no medical license to carry out this dangerous procedure and is only a cosmetologist, according to state records. Apparently, Blaine visited Mobley on at least three other occasions in 2012 and 2013 to have these same injections. Additionally, law enforcement officials stated it was well known that Mobley gave similar injections to women over the past few years.
During Blaine’s autopsy, the medical examiner found evidence of injections and noted that silicone was injected into her veins, killing the young mother. Police stated that Blaine was foaming at the mouth, convulsing and writhing on the floor, yet Mobley waited 90 minutes before calling for help. Mobley denied knowing what was wrong with Blaine but later confessed under further interrogation by New York detectives. Police searched the perpetrator’s home and found the illegal substances used for the injections.
This illegal and dangerous procedure has been in the news with growing frequency. In Atlanta, for example, transgender men have been known to go to illegal “pumping parties” where groups of individuals await injections. A 22-year-old man named Justin Street died after having silicone injected into his penis to make it bigger by a person who advertised at bars and stores. The person who injected Street, Kasia Rivera, was charged with manslaughter for Street’s death. In the south Florida area, Ron “Duchess” Morris was well known for giving women silicone injections. He injected his “patients” with industrial silicone, fix-a-flat tire sealant and crazy glue. His actions led to the death of Shatarka Nuby.
