Santa Monica High School teacher tries to stop drug deal in class
In an outrageous display of contempt for law and education a student allegedly tried to deal drugs in his high school class. Science teacher (and wrestling coach) Mark Black was having none of this foolishness. He demanded the bag of marijuana the student was holding and things got physical. By all accounts, the student struck the teacher first and a wild fight started that was caught on video. During the fight, the student grabbed a pencil and tried to stab Black. The student was subdued, however, the school superintendent’s response has many parents angry.
Black was suspended and is in jeopardy of losing his job and teaching license. Apparently, Superintendent Sandra Lyon took a different view on the incident releasing the following statement: “A deeply disturbing incident involving a teacher and student occurred in a classroom at Santa Monica High School, resulting in the Santa Monica Police Department being called to the campus. A number of videos capturing at least a portion of the incident are circulating, and I can tell you that what I witnessed on one of those videos is utterly alarming. … Based on what I have viewed, the kind of physical restraint used by the teacher is unacceptable. I have placed the teacher on leave pending the outcome of an independent investigation.”
No mention was made of the student‘s punishment or the fact that this kid brought a bag of weed on campus. The parents of Santa Monica High School are applauding Black’s actions and are calling for the resignation of school superintendent Lyon.
