ATLANTA — The 35th annual airing of the United Negro College Fund’s “An Evening of Stars” will be televised tonight on BET.
The nationally televised entertainment extravaganza, hosted by comedic actor Anthony Anderson, supports students matriculating through higher education.
The program will pair up UNCF’s own “rising star” students to focus attention on the importance of getting to and through college along with some of the biggest and most legendary performers in the entertainment business, including Usher, Trey Songz, Jill Scott, The Isley Brothers, Cedric the Entertainer, and Monica.
This year, UNCF’s premier fundraising event comes from its new home in Atlanta. It’s a perfect fit. The city is the historic cradle of African American education, and the new capital of African American entertainment and business. Four of UNCF’s 37 Member Institutions are in Atlanta, and many of today’s hottest artists and celebrities call the city home.
While you enjoy the show, along with this gallery of behind-the-scenes photos, remember the UNCF mantra: “A mind is a terrible thing to waste, but a wonderful thing to invest in.”
