Last week, Emmy-nominated actor (HBO’s “True Blood”) and Chicago area native Nelsan Ellis came home to celebrate being on the cover of Ebony magazine with a swanky private event at Sawtooth Restaurant and Lounge in the West Loop neighborhood.
Ellis, who also stars as Bobby Byrd in the James Brown biopic Get On Up, participated in an informative Q-and-A session with Mitzi Miller, editor-in-chief of Ebony, to discuss his thriving acting career. He introduced the audience to his new music artists; Anton Rechard and Caleb Minter, who later performed during a showcase and listening session. Guests were treated to complimentary specialty cocktails courtesy of Hennessy, and as a special treat, DJ B Syde engaged the packed house in a spirited James Brown tribute by spinning some of his most popular hits.
Sponsored by Ebony magazine and The D’Nero Group, the event also included other notables such as Tone of Power 92’s The Hot Boyz, and actress Erica Hubbard of BET’s hit series “Let’s Stay Together.”
