Author and director Roneeka “R. Simone” Brown has transformed her amazing novel “My Husband’s Mistress is ME” into a sensational musical melodrama. Brown and cast celebrated opening night on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at the Whiting Auditorium in Flint, Michigan. The show featured actress, philanthropist, fashion designer and star of reality TV’s “Basketball Wives” Sundy Carter, alongside another reality TV favorite, Tara Wallace of Love & Hip Hop. This dramatic stage play is an emotional roller-coaster ride for all audiences as it showcases some daily life challenges. It is a scandalous and tantalizing tale of love, betrayal, death, deception and forgiveness.
Carter played the role of Rebecca, a very elegant, pretentious and overprotective bully who is not afraid to speak her mind. “I am so grateful to Roneeka for casting me to play Rebecca. Her character came so natural to me,” says Carter, who admits to being the overprotective big sister in her family.
Wallace, armed with a master’s in theater, easily slid into character as Nina, the best friend of Rebecca’s sister. Nina is a recent college graduate, brand-new mommy and an ex-stripper who has plenty of skeletons in her closet. “When we first see Nina, she appears to be at the beginning stages of her career but she has some very deep, dark secrets that she has been hiding as well. I’m excited to see how the audience reacts to her by the end of the play,” expresses Wallace.
The play featured a live jazz band ensemble and lots of great singing. This must-see musical is expected to go on tour in the near future and will be a great experience for all who attend. Click the link below to check out some photos from the show.
