The new music Monday album of the week is Fabolous’s sixth studio album titled The Young OG Project. Released in December, this album features artists French Montana, Chris Brown, Rich Homie Quan and comedian Kevin Hart. This album also gives writing and production credits to Kanye West, Jay-Z, P.Diddy, and T.I.. For an album that supposedly only took a month to create, the sound of it is pretty dope. Here’s why:
For starters, this album is stacked with major players in the rap game and represents Fabolous’ new deal with Roc Nation, which was announced before the album dropped. What makes this album special aside from the unique and relevant production combination is Fabolous’ wordplay and messages on each track. While the album does follow his usual album technique of featuring a few songs with classic samples such as “Lituation,” “All Good, Rap & Sex,” and “Gone for the Winter,” Fabolous also features some new original tracks such as “We Good,” “She Wildin'” (feat. Chris Brown) and “Bish Bounce.”
What Fabolous does well with this album is the way he reveals emotional experiences from his past coupled with the results of his constant grind and rise to power in the rap game. Tracks such as “You Made Me” and “Cinnamon Apple” (feat. Kevin Hart) delivers stories of old heartache wounds delivered to Fab as a youth that everyone can relate to. On the flip side, we also get a taste of Fab’s current day success in the rap game with tracks such as “We Good,” “All Good” and “Gone for the Winter” not to mention featuring an extravagant song dedicated to his son titled “Young OG 2.”
Overall this album is great to play at different hours of the day and get 4 stars out of 5. Take a listen and let us know what you think.
