The tragic death of Sandra Bland has transfixed the entire country. But now a new revelation threatens to change the way her death is being viewed. According to media outlet Reuters, Waller County District Attorney Elton Mathis sent a text message to Bland family attorney Cannon Lambert. The text was in regard to the autopsy results on Sandra Bland. The unconfirmed text from the DA allegedly states, “Looking at the autopsy results and toxicology, it appears she swallowed a large quantity of marijuana or smoked it in the jail. … This will, of course, be very relevant in any future criminal or civil litigation,”
Lambert has publically stated that the state’s autopsy on Bland was defective and is demanding a second autopsy be performed. Bland’s body was returned to Chicago in preparation for her funeral and burial this coming Saturday. Lambert went on to state, “The family’s confidence is shaken by the continued discrepancies that are surfacing in an email to Reuters news service.”
Bland was found hanging in her cell after being in jail three days over a traffic stop on July 10, 2015. Her death was originally called a suicide but law enforcement officials are handling it as a murder investigation.
