Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church was jumping with excitement recently. Chicago native Jonathan McReynolds held his birthday bash/album release for his sophomore project currently Number 1 on Amazon Life Music: Stage Two at the church and it was amazing. McReynolds is a Christian artist, a gifted song writer and singer who has gained much notoriety and support from his peers across the industry. He delivers a youthful and relatable message that speaks across generations and genres. In spite of flash flood warnings, Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church was filled to the balconies with those excited to see Jonathan spread his message of the love of God.
The show was hosted by Jermaine Dolly, who mentioned that he was not a comedian but managed to keep the crowd entertained with laughter throughout the night. Travis Greene opened up the concert with an electrifying spirit-filled set and was followed by Just Stephen who performed some hard-hitting poetry in the spirit of Christianity.
Jonathan opened up his set with his song “Gotta Have You.” During this performance he was joined on stage by the legendary Smokey Norful who added to the spirit of love that filled the church. Grammy Award winning Israel Houghton, who Jonathan says changed the way praise and worship is done, joined him on stage to perform Israel’s song “You Are Good” and “Already Done” off of Jonathan’s newest release.
Chante Cann and Grammy Award winning India.Arie joined Jonathan on stage and performed a moving rendition of India’s “God Is Real.” It was a transformative night and we were lucky enough to be there.
