Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz are somewhat of a generational bridge in hip-hop. Both artists have solidified themselves over the past decade (two decades when considering Lil Wayne), but they have also continue to pave the way and influence the next wave of artists.
The two recently released a joint album, Collegrove, to combine the styles of New Orleans’ bounce and Atlanta’s trap music. On March 30, the two made their way to 2 Chainz’s hometown to perform a concert that was streamed live on Tidal.
Held at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne performed songs from their joint album and also featured solo sets. Lil Wayne performed hits from his extensive catalogue such as “A Milli,” “Lollipop,” and “Steady Mobbin’.” Bobby V joined Lil Wayne for the 2008 hit, “Mrs. Officer.” 2 Chainz performed hits such as “I’m Different,” “Birthday Song,” “Where U Been” and “No Lie.”
The two also paid tribute to Bankroll Fresh who was recently killed at a studio in Atlanta. Lil Wayne performed his verse from Bankroll Fresh’s “Hot Boy” remix. And 2 Chainz was joined by several members of Street Execs as they performed the hook to “Takeover Your Trap.”
2 Chainz closed the show with his most recent hit, “Watch Out.”
There are speculations that 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne may tour together in the upcoming months. If the Tidal show is an indication of what’s to come, it will be one of the most anticipated rap tours of the summer.
