A two state, high-speed car chase ended in a police beat down for a Massachusetts man. Police chased Richard Simone, 50, of Worcester after he refused to stop for police when they attempted to arrest him on multiple warrants. Simone led local and state police from Massachusetts and New Hampshire on a wild chase that went from the highway to residential streets. The chase was caught on camera by local media until it came to a conclusion in the town of Nashua, New Hampshire.
The police approached the battered pickup truck, and Simone can clearly be seen getting out of his car with his hands in the air, surrendering. It was then that one officer punched him in the face causing him to collapse and four officers pinned him to the ground. The cop on top of Simone then hits him at least six times in the head and back of the skull as well as several uppercuts to the face. The officers who were assaulting this man seemed totally clueless that a news helicopter was hovering over their heads while they pummeled the suspect. Simone was charged with outstanding warrants on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, larceny and failure to stop for police. The officers involved are now under investigation by Massachusetts State Police and local law enforcement agencies involved in the pursuit to determine if the level of force used by the officers was appropriate.
The office of Massachusetts Gov. Maggie Hassan released the following statement:
“The governor is aware of the situation and we’ve reached out to the Departments of Safety and Justice. All New Hampshire public safety officials are held to the highest standards, and the governor expects this will be fully investigated. ”
The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office is also involved and is handling all issues related to the chase and beating that occurred in its jurisdiction.
