This past March, VSP Global marked a major milestone in striving toward their goal to provide affordable, accessible, high-quality eye care to the world. Celebrating having helped one million adults and children in need, the company committed to reaching a million more by 2020.
“Eyes of Hope has consistently continued to grow in sophistication and innovation, providing both immediate and sustainable solutions for vision care globally,” said Jim McGrann, president and CEO of VSP Global. “We’re tremendously proud to be celebrating this milestone and look forward to increasing access to quality vision care in even more communities in the future.”
The “Eyes of Hope: a Million More” initiative launched this month with a 2016 partnership with the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Immediate and sustainable access to no-cost eye care and eyewear will be provided in 10 cities, beginning with the city of Atlanta on May 15-18. Upcoming events are also scheduled in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mount Pleasant and Lansing, Michigan; and Sacramento and Elk Grove, California.
Aside from eye-specific issues, through a comprehensive eye exam, optometrists can also detect early signs of chronic diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol and even spot tumors; so it is very important to have our eyes checked regularly.
The exams in Atlanta are being provided at the Adamsville Recreation Center at 3201 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. NW from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. through Wednesday.
“The city of Atlanta is proud to partner with VSP Global Eyes of Hope and the U.S. Conference of Mayors to provide underserved families with eye care,” said Mayor Kasim Reed in an interview with CBS 46 News. “Eye examinations are an important part of health maintenance for everyone and I encourage residents to take advantage of these free services.”
The mobile clinic has a full-service eye exam room and a complete dispensary with popular eyewear brands, according to the mayor’s office, which added that residents can get their frames and lenses the same day as the exam.
