Naturi Naughton has been back in the news thanks to the start of the highly anticipated new season of Showtime’s “Power” series. Although many fans love Naughton, one person who allegedly despises the actress is Lil’ Kim. Rumor has it that Kim still has beef with Naughton over her portrayal of her from years ago and now Naughton is opening up about the drama and explaining why she’s baffled by the beef.
As most fans know, Naughton played Kim in the 2009 biopic Notorious, which told the life story of iconic MC, Notorious B.I.G., including his rise to fame alongside Lil’ Kim and his tragic murder in 1997. Unfortunately, Kim was not pleased at how she was portrayed in the film and she was extremely vocal about how she did not like that Naughton was cast as her and that Naughton didn’t reach out to her during filming for the movie.
Now, seven years later, rumors began spreading a few weeks ago that Kim spoke about Naughton again at the Vh1 Hip Hop Honors ceremony and claimed that she didn’t want the “Power” actress anywhere near her. Well, Naughton got wind Kim’s alleged comments during the latest episode of “VH1 Live” and she explained that she doesn’t understand why Kim dislikes her so much.
“The shade is real! I don’t understand it!” said a baffled Naughton.
“All I know is that I had the pleasure and the honor of playing Lil’ Kim in the film Notorious. I would love to have her, you know, some kind of affinity, but I guess …,” Naughton explained when asked why Kim has beef with her.
According to Naughton, she’s disappointed that Kim took the low road in the situation and that she didn’t support another Black woman trying to make it in the industry.
“My thing is this: I was a first-time actress in a film, this was the beginning of my career, I’m a little Black girl from Jersey, why not uplift me and support that?” Naughton asked. “I’ve always loved and appreciated her work and I wish her nothing but the best.”
When asked what she would say to Kim if she ever got a chance to see her and talk about the beef, Naughton said, “I mean, I don’t have any beef! That’s the thing, I ain’t got no beef so how am I gonna squash beef that I didn’t have?!”
At this point, these two women should just sit down and hash out their issues. But that might seem too much like right in this crazy, drama-filled celebrity world.
