Magic and Cookie Johnson honored by LA Urban League

The Los Angeles Urban League awarded Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Cookie Johnson during their 44th Whitney M. Young Jr. Awards Dinner. They were honorees of the Whitney M. Young Jr. Award because of their continuous efforts in helping impoverished areas, business endeavors and HIV/AIDS initiatives. The event was supported by executives, community leaders, stakeholders and civil rights advocates.
Holly Robinson Peete hosted this year’s event that was themed “The Magic of Giving” symbolizes the importance of investing in the over 95-year-old Los Angeles Urban League, which in turn empowers the community to strive for excellence. Many well-known faces came out to the event held at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at the Hollywood & Highland Center. Some of the people who graced the red carpet included Sugar Ray Leonard, Bill Bellamy and John W. Mack. The Honeycombs and the O’Jays performed during the black-tie event.
