The Westside Music Festival lit up Douglas Park in Chicago, once again. Families gathered from around the city to have a good time, eat some good food and listen to great music. This year, the festival featured LiL Mo, Vivian Green and the legendary R&B group Dru Hill.
The festival was designed to usher in the new school year. It started at 11 a.m. and incorporated activities for children and also included a backpack giveaway. “I’m proud to continue to partner with the Westside Cultural Foundation to put on this annual event that provides family focused fun to the North Lawndale community, my neighbors on the West Side and the entire Chicagoland area. This event has grown to be a staple to end the summer and usher our young people back to school,” said Michael Scott, Jr., 24th Ward Alderman.
The music is icing on the cake after a celebratory day. LiL Mo showcased her powerful voice. Vivian Green took the Westside on a trip from her past to a few new songs featured on her new album, VG6. Dru Hill reminded everyone why they are a legendary group as they filled the sky’s with smooth melodies and nostalgia. Sisqo, the lead member of the group, performed a few of his solo hits and still moves around the stage like a 20-year-old. There were a few glitches with sound and lighting, but overall it was a great evening.
“The event was live! Vivian Green had a vibe like no other. Dru Hill and Lil Mo put me in a state of euphoria. Can’t wait til next year!” said festival goer Serita Love.
