Sports certainly isn’t a field that hasn’t been affected by sexual assault. Some of the game’s biggest names and icons have been accused of committing sexual assault. Here are five athletes who have been accused.
- Brock Turner
The former Stanford men’s swimming team member had one of the most famous cases of 2016. Turner was convicted of assault with intent to commit rape of an intoxicated/unconscious person, penetration of an intoxicated person and penetration of an unconscious person. The victim learned that she was found lying behind a dumpster and half-naked through a newspaper. Turner faced up to 14 years in prison; he was sentenced to six months in county jail and he ended up serving three months for “good behavior.”
- Peyton Manning
Peyton Manning is arguably one of the more lovable athletes of his generation. To this day, Manning dominates the number of player cameos in commercials. However, a former trainer at the University of Tennessee claims Manning sexually assaulted her in 1996. One day while in the training room, the trainer was working on Manning’s injured foot when he allegedly pulled down his pants and sat his genitals on the trainer’s face. Manning denied the allegations and said he was simply pranking another roommate in the training room by briefly mooning him.
- Ben Roethlisberger
Big Ben has been accused of committing sexual assault twice. In 2009, one of the employees at a Harrah’s hotel came into his room, per request, to fix the T.V. Once the employee entered his hotel room, he allegedly grabbed her, held her against her will and raped her. In 2010, Roethlisberger allegedly raped a woman in Milledgeville, Georgia.
- Jameis Winston
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winson was charged with raping an intoxicated individual in 2012 at Florida State University. Then in 2014, he was suspended for standing on top of a people and yelling “f— her right in the p—.” Within in the last two weeks, Winston has been accused of allegedly groping an Uber driver.
- Kobe Bryant
Sports icon Kobe Bryant was accused of committing sexually assaulting a woman in Colorado in 2004. Bryant denied allegations of assault and he admitted that he did commit adultery. The victim claimed Bryant began to choke her when she tried to evade him. The case was dropped in September 2004.
