The Oprah Winfrey Network hosted an intimate press dinner with the owner of Sweetie Pie’s restaurants, Miss Robbie Montgomery and her charming, hard-working nephew Charles. To say the dinner went extremely well would be an understatement. We started with questions for Miss Robbie and got so enthralled in her dialogue and stories about running a restaurant, being on television and how she felt when she discovered her show, “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s,” was going to be on OWN that we didn’t get around to ordering dinner until quite late.
Speaking to Miss Robbie and hearing all about how important running a business is to her, from the little things like being on time, opening on time, hiring reliable courteous staff, to the big stuff like being able to trust family, hiring from the prison system and the whole story about her opening this restaurant while her son was doing time in prison just to give him a place to go to and be able to work and earn a living as a convicted felon, was beyond amazing.
The new season will show how Miss Robbie and Tim are mending their son and mom relationship after she had to sue him for trying to open his own restaurant. They decided to just divide the family business. It was great hearing Miss Robbie speak so highly of her son and how good their Houston establishiment is doing.
“Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s” reveals the background of what it takes to keep a good restaurant in business when it comes to the highs and lows, especially since it’s a family business.
OWN’s long-running, NAACP Image Award-winning docu-series “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s“ featuring soul food entrepreneur Miss Robbie Montgomery, her son Tim Norman and their exuberant family returns to OWN on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT for its fifth season.
