Comedienne Tiffany Haddish has won America’s heart. The 38-year-old Girls Trip actress and breakout star made history last fall as the first Black woman standup to ever host “Saturday Night Live” in its four-plus decades. Haddish’s delivery is touted as one worthy of Emmy consideration in 2018.
A guest voice in the cartoon “Da Jammies,” the first African American original animated 3D music series on Netflix, Haddish can do no wrong. During last month’s co-hosting of the 90th Academy Awards nominations announcement, along with presenter Andy Serkis, she mispronounced a few names, but it was her chutzpah and wit that made it forgivable.
“Daniel Kool-yay… Kal-a-loo… Kall-elujah… Daniel Kall-elujah… You know it, he know his name!” Haddish exclaimed, laughing throughout her mistakes, when trying to utter the Get Out star’s name. Who could blame her? West Coast time is three hours behind the morning’s show live on the East Coast.
This awards season has been good to Haddish. She’s won a New York Film Critics Circle best supporting actress award and a NAACP Image Award for outstanding supporting actress in a motion picture for her performance in 2017’s Girls Trip, and NAACP Image Award for outstanding character voice-over performance for her work in “Legends of Chamberlain Heights.”
Heck, the last six months have been excellent. She’s star in a TBS series, “The Last OG,” alongside Tracy Morgan. She’s scored a Super Bowl commercial. She’s a spokesperson for Groupon, where she is in the top 1% of Groupon Customers since signing up in 2013.
The author of the New York Times bestseller, The Last Black Unicorn, has just inked a deal with HBO. Her Showtime comedy special “Tiffany Haddish: She Ready! From the Hood to Hollywood” culminated into a North American tour where you will find her on stages in venues in Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Detroit, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Las Vegas, Washington DC, Boston and Omaha, Nebraska.
