Controversial rap star Kanye West has taken to his Instagram account to reveal how he decided to “overcome” one of his fears.
West had a fear of bugs, but he put it to the side to celebrate his dad “beating cancer” after learning that his dad was on the road to recovery from prostate cancer.
West, whose post featured a tray of crickets, was captioned: “overcome fear My dad and I are going to eat this plate of bugs to celebrate him beating cancer. No more fear (sic)”
West’s mother, Donda, died in 2007 following cosmetic surgery complications. But a source previously claimed that the 41-year-old rap star has recently benefited from the support of his wife Kim Kardashian West, with whom he has three children: North, 5, Saint, 2, and 8-month-old Chicago.
In July, a source explained: “West’s dad was diagnosed with cancer and is already receiving treatment. He seems to be responding well to the treatment, and everyone is hopeful he will be okay.”
Although West didn’t want to talk about his dad’s health worries at the time, he appreciated his wife’s supportive influence. The insider added: “West doesn’t really talk about it. You can tell it’s something that’s very difficult for him.
“When his mom suddenly passed away, West was all alone. Having Kim and the kids around helps in difficult situations.”
West previously suggested he blames himself for his mother’s death. Asked what he has sacrificed for his career success, he said: “My mom.”
The rap star claimed Donda, who underwent surgery at a Los Angeles-area hospital, would still have been alive if he hadn’t decided to relocate.
“If I had never moved to L.A. she’d be alive,” he explained. “I don’t want to go far into it because it will bring me to tears.”
