Why is it important for women of color to work in leadership roles and decision-making capacities?
It’s critical because historically, while unfortunate, women of color have been marginalized. As key decision-makers, we bring both diversity of thought and perspective. It’s best for businesses and organizations to understand that an inclusive environment is what drives key performance indicators and increases bottom-line revenue.
If you could thank any Black woman history maker for her contributions to society, who would it be and why?
Michelle Obama, of course. She’s the epitome of dignity and grace, which is imperative for us all to exhibit when faced with adversity. When she said, “When they go low, we go high,” it purposefully tied everything together for me on how I could make an even greater impact in the lives I touch.
What are three success habits you implement in your daily routine to maintain your success, sanity and peace of mind?
Prayer, meditation, and affirmation. Prayer is essential, and I start the day reading my devotional, From Passion to Purpose – A Year’s Journey to Activate Your Passion & Lead You to Your Purpose, because it not only helps me to motivate those I touch on a daily basis, [but] it [also] affirms why I exist and the difference I hope to make. It helps me consciously navigate throughout the rest of the day.
As a successful woman in business, what is your proudest achievement?
Collaborating with my two best friends to publish From Passion to Purpose – A Year’s Journey to Activate Your Passion & Lead You to Your Purpose. I’m convinced this devotional will positively impact millions of lives day after day, year after year. This small, yet powerful imprint assists people with their own growth and development personally, professionally and spiritually.
