Herman Cain, former presidential hopeful and business mogul, dies from COVID-19

Cain first came to national prominence as the CEO of Godfather’s Pizza. He was considered a business pioneer as one of the few African Americans in that position and also went on to become chairman of the Kansas City Fed and CEO of the National Restaurant Association.

Cain, a co-chair of the group Blacks Voices for Trump, contracted COVID-19 not long after he and other prominent African Americans attended the president’s campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in late June. Very few people at the event wore masks, and none were practicing social distancing. Cain’s team told the media they do not know if the rally was where he contracted the illness but did not leave out the Tulsa rally as a possibility.

As late as Monday, July 27, Cain’s team held out hope by posting on Twitter that he “is still in the hospital being treated with oxygen for his lungs. In the meantime, the doctors say his other organs and systems are strong,” according to MSNBC.

“Re-strengthening the lungs is a long and slow process, and the doctors want to be thorough about it,” added another tweet from Cain’s account. “He really is getting better, which means it is working.”
