Alfonso Ribeiro, one of the former stars of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” set the record straight about his absence during Janet Hubert’s segment for the sitcom’s 30-year reunion special.
Although Will Smith and Hubert managed to put their differences aside during the highly anticipated special, fans did not miss the fact that Ribeiro was missing in action when the former Aunt Viv appeared. With all that happened in the past, fans were quickly resigned to think that Ribeiro did not want to be in the same room with Hubert due to some lingering bad blood between the two. However, according to Ribeiro, that was not the case.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ribeiro revealed his absence had nothing to do with Hubert’s presence. He confirmed that he had another shoot that also was scheduled on the same day.
“Unfortunately, I had to go shoot that day. All of the social media content and the photographs were taken without me,” he explained. “I literally did my own photoshoot on the couch so they could put me in the group photo. The actual special was filmed in one day, but all the other stuff was done on the other days.”
Hubert also took to Twitter with a response to “Fresh Prince” fans’ reaction. She, too, confirmed contention was not the reason for Ribeiro’s absence.
“Don’t assume, he was working and I wasn’t there,” Hubert tweeted, adding, “Let it go sweetie, we have.”
