What thoughtful or encouraging piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
I would encourage my younger self to take the limits off expectations. Understanding you are right where you need to be. In life everything is done with a purpose as a stop on your journey and to continue moving forward never stop moving! Learn something new each and every day, ask questions and mentor someone else.
How do you balance work and life responsibilities?
I balance my work and life responsibilities by strategic scheduling and planning my time daily. I am a very structured person and I use my calendar for any and everything to hold myself accountable. While life does through its challenges, I try my best to leave room for the unexpected. I never allow my work responsibilities to interfere with my personal life. My time is just that, my time. My children are my first priority and everything I do in life is for them.
Why is it important for experienced Black women to reach back and help younger women of color?
It is so important for Black women to reach back and help younger women of color because mentorship matters. It was my sophomore year at Spelman College where I discovered the power of mentorship. My mentors hold me accountable with life and work decisions. I have four mentors, two professional and two spiritual. Mentorship allows you to develop your leadership skills, career planning and provides additional support for continued success in both your professional and personal life.
