One of R&B‘s young duos appears to have come to an end. VanJess, the sister group comprised of Ivana Nwokike and Jessica Nwokike, announced a split over social media on March 16.
“Hi guys, it’s Jess,” a statement from the group’s Twitter account read. “I see you and know how much you’ve been wanting to hear new music and see more from the both of us. The truth is, about eight months ago, my sister decided to step away from VanJess. I fully support and respect my sister in pursuing what makes her the happiest.
“I know this news is disappointing to you all, but want to thank you for your love and support over the years from watching us record covers in our bathroom to making our wildest dreams come true.”
Jessica said she is continuing to put out music as a solo endeavor and will use the group’s social media accounts to still connect with the fans. Jessica said she received permission to do this from her sister.
As mentioned in the statement, the sisters were first recognized from their covers posted on YouTube.
The duo later signed to RCA Records in 2018. Some of their standout tracks include “Slow Down,” which features Lucky Daye.
