Rap star YFN Lucci indicated he refused to cave into the pressure to be a star witness for the state in its case against Young Thug and YSL.
Lucci, who has been jailed since 2021 for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of 28-year-old James Adams, was served a subpoena in February 2023 to provide testimony against YSL, but he declined to take the stand and he took to Instagram to clarify his stance in a succinct, single sentence:
“Even in an earthquake we wouldn’t break n—- know we solid #Free650,” he wrote.
YFN Lucci, who was born Rashawn Bennett, has also had a tumultuous stay at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta which also houses Young Thug and other members of the YSL. In March 2021, shortly after YFN Lucci turned himself into authorities, he was reportedly stabbed while in confinement. Prosecutors in the Thugger trial told the judge that members of the YSL conspired to try to kill Lucci. Nonetheless, the judge refused to release YFN Lucci despite multiple pleas to get out on bond in order to ensure his safety.
Multiple celebrities have called for Lucci’s freedom, including the likes of Waka Flocka, NFL star Chris Johnson and Lil Tjay, who wrote “Free u” in the comments section of the YFL Lucci post on Instagram.
Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffrey Williams, is currently on trial on eight charges including conspiracy to violate the RICO Act as well as alleged participation in gang activity, weapons violations and drug distribution. Jury selection, which began in January 2023, continues to move at a glacial pace as we quickly approach the month of April.
