When Chicago based businesswoman Allison Caldwell traversed the world for the best anti-aging skincare solutions she wasn’t satisfied with what she found, she took action.

Founded in 2022, Caldwell’s Memoire Skincare line sets itself apart from others by using a revolutionary technique featuring hyaluronic acid instead of water as a base that saturates the skin with moisture while enhancing the delivery of anti-aging ingredients for the greatest anti-aging solutions.

Caldwell recently spoke with us about her cruelty-free skincare line that does not do testing on animals.

Please tell us about your skincare line, Memoire?
Memoire is a skincare line for all skin types. As we age we lose collagen and elasticity in our skin which creates wrinkles and sagging skin. I wanted to create a line that focuses on anti-aging and regenerative formulas that hydrate and moisturize the skin to bring back a youthful, healthy appearance to the face, neck, and body. The line helps with acne as well as aging skin. It exfoliates, minimizes fine lines and wrinkles, and tightens and removes dark spots. When you look good you feel good and when you feel good anything is possible and you are open to opportunity.

What are some misconceptions Black people have about skincare?
I know there is this myth in the African-American community that black people do not need sunscreen. That is not true. If you get nothing else from this article, please wear sunscreen. I do sell sunscreen, but you do not have to buy mine. Just go to your local Target, Walmart, Walgreens, or grocery store, get that sunscreen, and put it on daily. Find a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 that blocks at least 97 percent of the sun. If you get a higher SPF, it will only block another one or two percent, depending on the concentration.

No SPF on the market can block 100 percent of the sun’s rays. Get facials from professionals. If your budget doesn’t allow for a top-of-the-line facial, find a local esthetician school to get the job done. Finally, do not forget to fight those fine lines and wrinkles with moisturizers, vitamins, and collagen.

What’s your personal philosophy that leads you to explore new ventures and ideas?
“Nothing beats a failure but a try,” It doesn’t matter if you are good at something you just have to try, try, and try again. Through your failures and missteps, you will eventually find success. Be fearless in life. What is the worst that can happen?

What is your best skincare advice?
I really want people to know that before you put on your makeup, take care of your skin. Make your skin flawless, and your makeup will look so much better. Each day we age, everyone needs to understand they can not wait until they are fifty to take care of their skin. It really should start in your teenage years, combating acne and scarring. Then, always wear sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.

What’s next for Memoire?
Hopefully, you will soon find Memoire on the shelves in big box stores. I watch HSN all the time, so I would like to be featured there eventually. I would also love more estheticians to discover Memoire, and I would like to partner with boutiques to have Memoire placed on their shelves to be used by their customers.
