Rapper Dwayne “Lil Wayne” Carter and reality star Toya Wright’s daughter, Reginae Carter has penned a novel with longtime friend, Bria Williams, daughter of Cash Money’s Bryan “Birdman” Williams. The teens are making their literary debut with the release of Paparazzi Princesses, which chronicles the journey of Kyla Jones and Promise Walker who face their parents’ high expectations, the pitfalls of being “unintentionally famous,” and, most crucially, the trials and tribulations of high school, homework, crushes, and friendship that everyone goes through.
Here, proud mom Wright talks about her daughter’s venture into the literary world and her own success as an author. –munson steed
Tell us about this hot new book, by this beautiful young teenager.
My daughter, Reginae Carter and her godsister, Bria Williams, are writing their first book, it’s called Paparazzi Princesses. The book is scheduled to be released June 4, under Cash Money Content. The book is about the advantage and disadvantages of having celebrity fathers.
They decided that they wanted to share their experiences with other young girls and also encourage kids to read. A lot of kids don’t read, they are attached to social media and other things like that.
We have this program that we will be doing, it’s the new book club. It will be launched at the same time as the book, so we will be going from city to city doing a book club where all the girls will pick like five books, including Paparazzi Princesses. We just want to make it fun and give kids something to do for the summer.
Aren’t you a best-selling author?
Yes, my little one wanted to follow in her mother’s footsteps. I continue to set positive examples for her. I’m a New York Times best-selling author. My first book was Priceless Inspirations, now I am working on my second book which is fiction. … It’s about five girlfriends. The five girlfriends kind of are all fashionable, have different types of relationships and have drama, some are married. There is love, drugs, murder; it’s all crazy.
… My first book I attracted a lot of young girls and I love that. But I am getting a little older now, so I decided to play around with it a little more to attract to a different audience.
What do you love most about being a writer?
What I love most are the people that I am able to touch by sharing my life story.
