Trouble has been brewing with the cast of “Basketball Wives” ever since the fifth season began this summer. Many of the show’s principal stars have complained about their portrayals and threatened to leave the show. Now that the abbreviated season has wrapped — only 10 episodes were produced — the show has taken another major hit with the recent news that the reunion special was canceled after the lead star, Evelyn Lozada, backed out of the taping.
According to TMZ, sources claim that the reunion special was supposed to be taped earlier this month but Lozada pulled out and producers have no plans to reschedule the taping.
Sources claim that Lozada’s turbulent relationship with her ex-husband, Chad Johnson, is the reason she backed out of the reunion. All season long, Lozada’s storyline has mainly been centered around her split from Johnson and their infamous domestic violence incident. However, Lozada is reportedly tired of talking about Johnson and their split and refused to do the reunion because she would, of course, be asked about Johnson.
It’s also reported that the producers didn’t think that the shows other stars, specifally Tami Roman, Suzie Ketcham and Tasha Marbury, had enough of an interesting storyline to fill up an hour-long reunion show with Lozada and they simply decided to pull the plug on the reunion.
Earlier this year, Lozada claimed that she wanted to leave “BBW” and star in her own reality series.
“I signed on to do five seasons and this is our fifth. I don’t really see me doing a sixth season,” said Lozada. “I know I can carry my own show, pretty much carried this one.”
And sources claim that Lozada has finally had enough of “BBW” and is planning to move on with her life.
Well, clearly the writing’s on the wall about the fate of “BBW” and we doubt that fans will be interested in the show when Lozada and Roman, who also announced her exit, leave. But this isn’t the first time a reality show has had a major cast shake-up. Check out some other reality TV exits below. – nicholas robinson
