If you ever imagined what Kanye West‘s protege would look or sound like? Well, look no further.
There’s not a moment where you would doubt if Travis Scott‘s creative soul was ready to be released to the world. Everything from his high fashion swag to his upbeat and nearly over confident personality screams creative genius. The 20 year old Houston native is barely getting his feet wet as he’s signed to both Grand Hustle/Epic Records as an artist, and Kanye West’s Very GOOD Beats as a producer, where both teams have already took on task of molding Scott to being one of the greatest young creatives in the industry.
Travis Scott pushes the fashion envelope without raising questions about his sexuality or his knowledge of high fashion designers. As the XXL freshman entered Atlanta’s Silent Sound Studios, it was evident that he has been around the world a time or two. As we took a moment for an impromptu photo shoot, I had the opportunity to peek his designer labels. It wasn’t hard to notice the soft leather vest that many assumed was bullet-proof. “Karl Lagerfeld made this vest for me. Do you know Karl Lagerfeld?” Though his elementary fashion question initially caught me off guard, we can’t forget that the hip-hop community as a whole has barely scratched the surface on the high fashion looks Travis, Kanye, and A$AP have quickly embraced.
As Travis insisted that the small intimate crowd of industry taste makers enjoy his music in the dark, just as he enjoys to create music in the dark. We were allowed to focus purely on his craft. Just like his wardrobe, his collaboration arsenal is more impressive as you peel off the layers of his playlist. Kanye West, 2 Chainz, Daft Punk, Common, T.I., Bon Iver, Kid Cudi, Frank Ocean, and so many more major names came across his playlist in collaborations. The names don’t phase him as much as the crowd as Scott confirmed, “I always knew I had it.”
Travis Scott raps to the beat of his own drums; although the Houston native embraces the signature hometown sound, he believes that now “it’s time to grow and elevate” in hip-hop music.
Don’t forget the name Travis Scott.
