Atlanta is a beautiful city filled with culture, attractions, and historical landmarks. The city’s growth over the last thirty years is beyond what many would have imagined; hosting every high profile event from the Super Bowl, to the Democratic National Convention to the Olympics. Downtown Atlanta continues its growth in the business sector and beyond, which is why investing in the resurgence is key to downtown’s continued development. The hotel industry is a huge part of Atlanta’s continued growth, and with the recent addition of the Comfort Suites in Downtown Atlanta, the area continues to thrive.
Daymain Smith, the hotel’s general manager makes certain that the hotel’s brand and the guests are taken care of with top-notch service and attention. No stranger to the hospitality industry — having worked for the Marriott Corporation — Smith has thirteen years experience to his credit.Though happy working for Marriott and managing several of its properties, Smith sought a new challenge in his career. After being contacted about an opening for a general manager at a new downtown property, making the move to Choice Hotels was an easy decision.
More importantly the Comfort Suites – Downtown Atlanta, is the only African American partnered hotel in the metro area. “From an ownership standpoint, African Americans with disposable income have a great opportunity to invest in Choice Hotels International” states Smith. As the general manager of Comfort Suites, the LSU graduate wears many hats on any given day, that not only include managing his staff and the property, but also managing the image of the hotel as well.
“This particular property — especially being here at Underground — has so many different implications to various sets of the Atlanta community. Being African American, I take a certain amount of pride in being the face of the hotel.”An incredibly extensive renovation took place to transform the hotel into what it is today. With 156 spacious suites and in-room accommodations such as; free WiFi, flat screen televisions, pillow top mattresses, microwaves, refrigerators, hot tub/whirlpools and cable tv, it’s not surprising that the property was recently awarded an APEX Award for Best Design of all the Choice Hotel locations that opened up this year.
“This community has been under-served for quite some time and we are bringing a more upscale and classy element to the area, and that makes me really proud to be part of this property and Choice Hotels International.”From his humble beginnings as a dishwasher to his current position as general manager, Daymain Smith manages to maintain his professionalism, energy, and positive spirit, no matter what the ups and downs of the day may bring, and his down-to-earth to approach keeps him greeting every guest with a smile. –christa e. jackson
