Jada Koren Pinkett Smith was born on Sept. 18, 1971 to Robson Pinkett Jr. and Adrienne Banfield in Baltimore. Her father was a contractor and her mother was a nurse. They divorced after only a few months of marriage.
Her mother and grandmother, who helped raise Pinkett, recognized her enthusisiam for the arts and subsequently enrolled her in piano, tap, and ballet classes.
