Cat Stevens
The folkie singer-songwriter churned out some of the most laid-back, feel-good hits of the 60s and 70s. In the late ’70s, after an incident where he almost drowned, Stevens’ brother gave a copy of the Qu’ran. He converted, changed his name to Yusef Islam and abandoned his pop music career before eventually returning to recording religious music in the ’90s and 2000s.
