The Chicago-based K.L.E.O. Community Family Life Center recently held its second annual spring benefit at the swanky drumBAR Lounge located inside the Raffaello hotel in the trendy Streeterville neighborhood. The event themed, “Bud, Blossom and Bloom” served as a kick off for the organization’s fundraising campaign to continue the work the life center has begin.

Attendees enjoyed a relaxing and breathtaking rooftop space while grooving to the sounds of DJ M. Elle, and tasting wines from around the world provided by Wines of Humanity. Guests also were treated to mini massages and got the chance to participate in raffles and a silent auction throughout the evening. Most importantly, guests were able to learn more about The KLEO Center and its effort to help bring peace in Chicago.

The K.L.E.O. Community Family Life Center was founded by Torrey L. Barrett in honor of his sister, Kleo Yolaughn Barrett, who at 27 was tragically killed by an ex-boyfriend. Barrett, who serves as executive director of the organization, founded K.L.E.O. to help eradicate domestic violence with an encouraging message to Keep Loving Each Other.

The initial goals were to assist women and children affected by acts of domestic violence by improving their socioeconomic status, self-esteem, and quality of life through community-based sustainability programs. Over the years, the mission and goals of the foundation have expanded to include male mentorship programs, afterschool and summer programs, youth development and empowerment classes, as well as partnerships with the city of Chicago.
