The Great Xscape tour touched down in Chicago at the United Center recently and the performances were stellar. Kelly Rowland’s group June’s Diary set the tone as they provided a high energy set laced with silky vocals and harmonies. Zonnique and Tamar were great during their sets. Tamar’s wardrobe (or lack thereof) may have been a bit of a distraction.
Monica’s performance was is in rare form as she ran through her hits and did a tribute to Lauryn Hill in the middle of her set. Her three wardrobe changes were classic and added to the show-stealing performance she put on for the evening.
Xscape set the tone with a video showing their first performance on BET. They have come a long way from the Cross Colour clothing and the nose rings they used to wear. It seemed as though all the Black women in Chicago between the ages 30 and up were in the United Center ready to cheer in their favorites. Kandi and Tiny got the biggest cheers, but Tamika and LaTocha brought the biggest voices.
We spoke with Tenille Jackson who came to the show, “The Xscape tour with Monica and Tamar Braxton brought back so many memories. To be in an arena where thousands of people knew every song word-for-word reminded me of how music really does connect us all,” she said.
