Vonna Matthews is a marketing and branding expert with more than 10 years of experience working with nonprofit organizations and small businesses. She received her bachelor’s in radio, TV and film from the University of Texas at Austin and her MBA in marketing from Dallas Baptist University.

As a wife, mother and entrepreneur, Matthews understands the challenges of work-life balance. As a Black woman, what do you consider your superpowers to be?

I consider my superpowers to be my faith, my resilience and my obedience to God, which consistently require my sacrifice. I am a fighter, and I am not willing to back down on the callings God has placed on my life.

What thoughtful piece of advice would you give to your younger self?

It’s not that serious. So many of the things you focus on and allow to hinder you are only fears and scenarios that you have created in your head. It’s very seldom going to turn out the way you imagined. In many cases, it will be better. Prepare for greatness and believe in your own power.
