Jamaican-born Melissa Hibbért is a makeup artist, author, life coach, and marketing expert. The Fisk University graduate had a 14-year career in corporate marketing. She just released a new book, Face Your Beauty.
Rolling out spoke with Hibbért about her journey as a makeup artist as well as her new book release.
How did you get started as a makeup artist?
I felt empowered by makeup during my teenage years. I picked up my first tube of red lipstick at the age of 13 and immediately I felt bold and confident. At the age of 36, I took a leap of faith and started my venture in the beauty industry.
Starting a business as a professional makeup artist was not difficult because I had the talent. The biggest challenge was finding my creative voice in a crowded industry. I utilized personal savings and a financial gift from my parents, which helped me to invest in setting up my business, producing my portfolio photo shoot and designing all marketing and digital materials necessary to promote my business.
What drove you to become a career and life coach?
While writing my book, I started to read, study and explore the world of personal development and I had an “aha moment” that everything I have experienced both personally and professionally has prepared me to use my life as an example of what is possible. I made a concerted effort to practice self-mastery and design a personal plan on how to make healing a lifestyle.
Educationally, I have both a bachelor’s degree and an MBA that have served me well in my life and corporate career. As I go to the next level, I’ve intensely done the research and training to obtain certifications in the professional coaching industry.
I represent hope and truthfully, the little word “hope” is more powerful than one can understand. My approach is thought-based and as a life coach, I have the ability to change lives and in some cases save lives by helping people achieve their goals, find happiness, discover their purpose and maximize their full potential.
