Singer Vina Mills travels a ‘Lonely Road’ with Musiq Soulchild

“In this day and age, when you hear about eff these n—-s, eff your man and eff this and eff that, … no one is being honest, everybody’s not savage,” she explained. “It’s about forgiving someone who made a mistake, them owning up to their mistake and showing you that it’ll never happen again, proving that they’ve changed and [you] being okay with forgiving them.”

Although the business savvy Leo has worked with a range of artists and producers, she noted one main difference with Musiq Soulchild. “He is probably the best person I’ve worked with as far as celebrities because I’ve been around them, I’ve toured with them. But he’s the only one that kind of paid attention, so I’m forever grateful to him,” she said.

Driven by a genuine love for her craft, Mills credits her father with challenging her to build her artistic moxie.

“One thing that he always taught me was how to channel my emotion creatively,” she recalled. “Where most girls call their friends to vent about a situation, I write songs about it.”

Embracing the complexity that defines her, Mills is comfortable with existing outside of the box. She describes her sound as ” … electric soul, music you can dance to and dance music you can feel.”

Her previous release, “Serena Williams,” a saucy salute to her fellow Black queens, is our permission slip to stay rooting for everybody Black.

“I explore a lot with music and my sound because I’m not just one thing, so I didn’t want to call it just one thing,” she said.

“Lonely Road” is the second single from the first album that will be released on Mills’ label, Revel 88. Stream or download it from all digital platforms. For tour dates and more, follow @TheVinaMills on Instagram and @VinaMills on Facebook and Twitter.
