What was the driving force behind you creating Cxmmunity?
The state of Georgia is one of the early adopters to have e-sports as an official high school sport. When I began to do more research, I realized that schools that are majority African American and Hispanic rarely had e-sports clubs or a varsity team. [This was] primarily due to the cost associated with purchasing the technology needed to compete. Shortly after realizing this challenge within Atlanta we knew that [would] be an issue in almost every major city.
What advice would you give an entrepreneur interested in tech without a science background?
My degree is in physical therapy. Anyone that is interested [in getting] into tech without a science degree must self-study and self-educate in their free time. Attend local tech meetups and conferences in your local city. You will absorb new insights with each micro or macro experience in technology.
How important is technology to the advancement of Black people?
Recently, it has been recognized that data is now worth more than oil. The importance for minorities to break into tech is vital for our community’s success. We need to develop and prepare our youth for the jobs of tomorrow, the jobs that will require technical skill sets.
How do you want to impact the culture with your creativity and technology?
We plan to create an environment centered around edutainment. We will leverage the gam[ing] industry to engage with students who may not be as accepting of traditional education teachings. By meeting the students at their passion and interest, we will then begin to teach them skills within computer science around coding, cybersecurity, graphic design and business management.
