Serial entrepreneur Tere Tatiana shares her old-school philosophy for success

What are the steps you take when you are starting a business?

When I start a business, I write everything [down]. I know we have iPhones, and we have electronic notes, but, I have a pen and paper. I have 50 million notepads and my friends always joke with me because I write everything down when I have an idea about a business. I have different family members and when they bounce different ideas off of me I get inspired and I sit down and start writing out my ideas. Once I start writing out those ideas and putting those ideas into motion then I have a plan and goals. After a while, you have a full-blown six-figure business in your lap. I think it’s very important to start with the fundamental things.

How do you make time to juggle all these businesses?

It’s a challenge, but it’s something that I welcome wholeheartedly. I’ve been positioning myself to be in this place for years. I’m a government contractor, and I’m supposed to be in Afghanistan right now. Due to COVID and the travel restrictions, I got stuck here. I was on vacation in March, and two days after I got back, the whole country shut down. I really haven’t been able to move since then. I just rechanneled all of my energy back into my companies. Things have been moving so fast for me and I’m in awe. I finally had to break down recently and get a team and an assistant to help me keep everything on track. Not only am I running three businesses, but I’m also a mother and I’m also trying to readjust to stateside life.
