Earl is a poet and his life experience is embedded in every lyric. There is a pain and a knowing that lives on SICK! that feels like emancipation. At its core, SICK! is a free-form expression where the production pulls you in and brings you along for the ride. At its best, it plays as a perfect backdrop for meditation and some deep thinking. Hardcore fans of Earl are going to love this project. What SICK! lacks is any clear direction or cohesive thread that brings the project together as a complete work. Where that may feel like an opportunity, it still works.
The high points of SICK! are “Vision” (featuring Zelooperz), “God Laughs,” “Tabula Rasa” (featuring Armand Hammer) and “Fire in the Hole.”
The piano solo at the end of “Fire in the Hole” closes the project perfectly.
I give SICK! 4 out of 5 stars. Did you listen to the project? What did you think? Share in the comments.
