An estimated 50,000 people were out in Philadelphia this weekend for a festival that included over 20 acts, a slew of surprise performances and a history making night of music. The 2012 Made In America festival kicked off Saturday, Sept. 1, at the city’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway where attendees came out in droves to see Maybach Music Group, D’Angelo, Janelle Monae and Jay Electronica. Also on hand was Calvin Harris, famous for Rihanna’s “We Found Love,” and dubstep mastermind Scrillex who wowed the audience before the evening’s headliner, Jay-Z, took to the stage.

Undoubtedly the man of the hour, Jay closed out the festival with a mind blowing show that included some of his biggest hits from Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint and The Black album while his wife Beyonce looked on. Also on hand of sorts was President Barack Obama who gave a special video message and encouraged the crowd to vote. After Jay returned and thanked the audience for being so “good” to him, another surprise in the form of Kanye West and his G.O.O.D. music collective was added. Kanye, Common, Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz took over the fest until the Roc Nation head returned to close with his ‘Throne’ collaborator on “N—- In Paris.” Other guests included Philly’s own, rapper Freeway, as well as Chris and Neefe of The Young Gunz.
