Before this past week, millions of Americans feared that President Donald Trump would be successful in repealing Barack Obama’s much-talked-about Affordable Care Act. But much to the relief of those Americans, this week, Trump’s administration pulled their repeal at the last minute, leaving the ACA intact and millions of Americans with the healthcare they’ve been dependent on for years. And while many have been talking and debating on why the repeal failed, politically vocal comedian and actor D.L. Hughley recently claimed that Trumpcare failed because people realized Obamacare wasn’t just for Black people.
In a new interview with the paparazzi, Hughley claimed that Trump was never the right man to lead the charge about a healthcare bill that would benefit all people.
“That’s an oxymoron. Trump has to care before there can be Trumpcare, wouldn’t he?” Hughley asked.
The comedian then discussed how the GOP failed to get the repeal to succeed because the GOP tried to get Americans to favor the bill through racist tactics but ultimately failed to provide a healthcare system that could outdo Obamacare.
“I think that they were successful making people believe that this was all about poor Black people but it wasn’t. When they saw the faces of the people really affected by Obamacare, I think we learned this that people hated the Obama part but the care part they were alright with,” Hughley explained.
Hughley was then asked where he thinks Trump will lead our healthcare system in the next four years.
“I think you just see a contrast. If you voted for President Trump and you have a pre-existing condition like type 2 diabetes, that means you hated the Black dude more than you love your feet,” Hughley said.
