How Diddy solidified his comeback with ‘MMM’

I had to do it. After studying countless interviews and closely paying attention to his Instagram posts, the ultimate hustler himself, Diddy prompted me to check out the music beyond the visuals that he provided via himself and Kate Moss looking like the 1997 couple of the year.

From the moment I pressed play, I knew Diddy was back on his “b—- s—,”  as he famously proclaims. This project was inspired by the fictional character Mitch (Money Makin Mitch = MMM), from the 2002 cult classic film, Paid in Full. The entire project plays like a movie as Diddy vigorously reminds all of us why he’s still on top even after 20 plus years in the game. And even more important than some of the features, the production is lush at some points, but also a bit typical considering that the sonic tonality of the rap game is littered with 808s, muted bass sounds, and piercing triplets lately.

As all the OGs have continuously done over the course of their respective careers, Diddy decided to hand-pick a few of the new-generation rappers, along with some legendary staple MC’s for MMM. Some of the standout tracks include the title track, “MMM” featuring Future, “Everyday,” featuring Jadakiss and Styles P, and finally “You Could Be My Lover,” featuring Ty Dolla Sign.

MMM comes straight from the vein of Future as he chants, “Money Makin Mitch,” over the heavy bass snare-driven track while Diddy calmly lets us know that he’s still in tune with everything even after all this time, “Feds peeping the spot, Fiends outside like them Yeezy’s gone drop.” Everyday is reminiscent of the golden age of Hip-Hop as Jada infuses his raspy, but sharp delivery on the track coupled with his partner in crime Styles P, who can make street dreams feel like heaven on earth. Diddy is, of course, being Diddy on this cut as well. And as for “You Can Be My Lover?” well, let’s say that we all will wish we were in the middle of July, two-stepping with a margarita on the dance floor considering that this track was blessed with the catchy hook that was written by L.A.’s own Ty Dolla Sign.

All in all, MMM is a project worthy of our attention as it serves as the pre-cursor for Diddy’s final album, No Way Out 2. Check out the project in its entirety right here:
