Eric Williams and his Silver Room Block Party transformed 53rd Street in Hyde Park into a Black utopia. The 14th annual Silver Room Block Party has been a Chicago tradition since its inception in the Wicker Park community of Chicago. Now in the second year at the new Hyde Park location, it has grown into a full-fledged celebration that is all about having fun.
It is a diverse gathering that is heavily attended by Black people and demonstrates yet another example of how truly beautiful Chicago is and how it is the total opposite of what is being shown across media outlets. Every age is represented and there is something for everyone.
Walking from Harpers Court down 53rd Street was like witnessing Black culture in action. House music, hip-hop, soul music, fashion and Black businesses all flourished under the umbrella of the Block Party. The theme this year was “We Speak.” The Silver Room Block Party spoke loud and clear. Chicago is rich in culture and amazing energy.
We spoke with Ore Jones and asked her what she loved about the Block Party. “I love that African American people are having a good time. Black-owned businesses are out here making money. We are all out here in peace having fun. It’s such a beautiful atmosphere and a real chill mode,” she said
Eric Williams, the owner of the Silver Room, has taken a vision and created something great and good for the city of Chicago to be proud of. It is an example of Black excellence.
