Mims inherited his entrepreneurial senses from his grandfather, Clifford Hunter.
“He was a visionary and a builder — a true example of a businessman. He owned a
liquor store, a grocery store, lots of property in the neighborhood, so I grew up
running a business,” Mims recalled. “My grandfather taught me certain skills early on.”
Through his various businesses, Mims employs family and those in his local community. As a philanthropist, he also provides support to various areas through his nonprofit organization My Fellow Man. The 501(c)(3) is a charitable organization with the mission of assisting the community through upkeep and beautification projects and helping the less fortunate primarily in the city’s Westside community.
My Fellow Man serves as annual sponsors for Frederick Douglass High School, Frank Lebby Stanton Elementary, Booker T. Washington High School, and The Salvation Army of Greater Atlanta’s Bellwood Boys and Girls Club. It also provides scholarships to various student organizations and awards a teacher appreciation stipend to an educator to recognize their hard work and dedication. The organization also builds homes and supports outreach missions in the Dominican Republic.
Being of service to others and his community is his life’s mission and purpose, Mims said, adding, “Paying it forward is how I was raised.”
